Our rental instruments all come as an Outfit that includes:

• Instrument (Violin, Viola, Cello or Bass)
• Case
• Bow
• Rosin
• Cleaning cloth
• Name tag!

We pride ourselves on offering excellent quality instruments at an affordable price. All of our instruments are professionally maintained by our staff and on-site luthier. We send each instrument out with a new set of stings, cleaned, polished and ready to play!

Frequently Asked Question: How much do your student level (rental level) instruments typically cost?

Answer: Our student level instrument outfit pricing is based on size, make, model and condition and will typically fall between the following price ranges:

Violins: $525 - $820 (and $820 - $1,300 for intermediate - advanced level full-sized instrument outfits)
Violas: $650 - $1,100
Cellos: $1,450 - $2,200
Basses: $2,400 - $3,200

As a reminder, you are not committed to purchasing the rental instrument you take home - your rental credit accrued can be used for any instrument, instrument outfit, or instrument - case - bow combo in the shop. When you are ready to close your rental and use your rental credit for purchase, we typically like to spend an hour with the student and family to try out a selection of instruments. When you find one you like, you can take it home for up to two weeks on trial to continue playing, show your teacher etc. As always - please don't hesitate to call us at 804-231-7463 with any questions!

N.B. Rental credit is calculated on Base Rent Only and excludes the quarterly maintenance fee and tax. Rental credit cannot be combined across multiple rental contracts. 

Tax Breakdown:

Rental Taxes:
There is a 6% state tax on the base rent and a 3% tax on the maintenance fee.
Sales Tax:
There is a sales tax of 6% on the subtotal value of the instrument (subtotal = instrument value minus the applied rental credit) at the time of purchase.

Please let us know if you are representing a school or other tax-exempt organization when you book your appointment!

N.B. Rentals are on a first-come-first-serve basis and an in-person appointment is required (please plan to spend 30 minutes with us to complete the rental process). We cannot hold or reserve instruments. Plan to leave with your rental outfit the same day! 

It is strongly suggested that you try to book your rental early (before August) because we cannot guarantee inventory once the school year begins.
