Instrument Care Tips: Keep Your Instrument Safe This Season

As the weather gets chillier and the school year kicks into high gear, here are a few quick tips to keep your instrument safe, whether at home or in your locker:

• Avoid extreme temperatures: Don’t leave your instrument in the car or by a heater! Sudden temperature changes can damage the wood.
• Keep it cased up: When not in use, store your instrument in its case to protect it from dust, accidents, or things that go bump in the night!
• Check your strings: As the weather cools, it’s a great time to check your strings for wear and tear.
• Humidity is your friend: Consider using a humidifier in your instrument case to help prevent cracks or warping. Aim to keep a humidity level of 40% - 50%.
